Avoid the pitfalls of receiving unlicensed advice

Working with an unlicensed education counsellor means that you do not know whether that counsellor continues to train-up their knowledge and skills annually, whether they adhere to the ECANZ Complaints Policy and whether their advice can be relied upon.

While individuals offshore do not need to be licensed to provide advice to students on student visas and student enrolment and are able to engage in this work without being licensed, we suggest caution when dealing with anyone who:

• Is not a Licensed Education Counsellor
• Claims they can guarantee admission for study anywhere in New Zealand
• Tell you they can get you jobs in New Zealand during or after you studies
• Gives visa advice for family of students without being a Licensed Immigration Adviser or NZ-registered lawyer.
